Choosing the right lamp is important for lighting up your home. You should consider the room size and style, as well as your personal preferences. For example, you might prefer a sleek design that doesn’t take up too much space, or a light with a soft shade for reading.
In addition to being practical, wall lamps can also add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space. They are perfect for a bedside table, hallway, bathroom or staircase. They can be adjusted to any position and are available in a wide range of shapes and styles.
The most common type of wall lamp is the plug-in style, which features a cord that can easily be plugged into an outlet nearby. It’s a great option for many homes, and you can even find some with built-in dimmers.
Another type of wall lamp is the hardwired style, which doesn’t feature a cord and requires you to install it yourself. This is a more complicated project and requires you to have knowledge of electrical wiring.
To wire a hardwired wall lamp, you need to first connect the wires to the mains. There are two or three wires that need to be connected, usually a blue and black wire and an additional yellow or green wire if the lamp is earthed. To do this, start by removing 0.5cm of the plastic surrounding the connection wires.
Next, insert these wires into the connector block. The connector block has two to three openings, two of these are for the blue and black wire and sometimes an opening is for the yellow or green wire if the wall lamp is earthed.
Now that you have connected all the wires, insert a compatible bulb and turn the power on. Once the bulb has been inserted, place any covers back on and then switch the power on again to make sure everything is working correctly.
